Whale Watching is one of the best things to do on your Cape Ann Vacation because Gloucester is considered the “Whale Watching Capital of the World”. Gloucester is “America’s oldest working seaport” and has the perfect setting for whale watching. Whale watch cruises are only available from late spring through early fall and they offer a great way to see the ocean, plus historic Gloucester harbor, Eastern Point Lighthouse, and other sights as your depart for the whales.
You’ll find plenty of great restaurants on a Cape Ann Vacation that will include the freshest seafood and lobster and terrific prices. If you are a history buff, Essex Massachusetts features the Essex Shipbuilding Museum and many fine restaurants including Woodman’s the inventors of the fried clam. Rockport Massachusetts is on the northern tip of Cape Ann and will offer amazing colorful sunsets at Folly Cove located on the west side of the island. Bearskin Neck is located on the rocky coast of Rockport and is home of Motif #1 and many art galleries, restaurants and shops. Halibut Point State Park is just up the road where you can walk around a huge quarry and find spectacular locations for bird watching. Climb to the top of the look-out tower and watch the ocean crash on the rock below.
Cape Ann has some of the most beautiful beaches on the East coast that includes Half Moon Beach at Stage Fort Park, Wingaersheek Beach, Front and Back Beaches, Pebble Beach, Long Beach and the popular Good Harbor Beach. At the end of a day of touring, shopping in our fabulous downtown area, scouting the art galleries on Rocky Neck, or just swimming and sunbathing, you are sure to want a great meal.
Located in Gloucester is the village of Magnolia where you will find the medieval Hammond Castle Museum. This museum is available for unforgettable weddings and functions, and is open for tours where you will find many of the inventions of the original homeowner John Hays Hammond, Jr., who is second only to Thomas Alva Edison in number of patents.
